2020 TOF Global Summit at American Academy of Optometry

The Optical Foundation’s Global Summit at American Academy of Optometry 2020

In making it possible for all level 500 Optometry students from both Universities in Ghana to attend the American Academy of Optometry 2020 virtual conference, the objective of The Optical Foundation’s Global Summit at AAO 2020 was to connect with the students and provide inspiration to this new generation of optometrists prior to the start of the virtual conference.

This platform was used to:

  • recognize the two winners (Miss Asantewa Aboagye MacCarthy and Mr Isaiah Osei Duah Junior) of The Optical Foundation’s 2020 Frans Oosterhof Travel Grant, who in light of the cancelled 2020 Netherlands Contact Lens Congress in Veldhoven, would both receive a Volk 90D lens as an alternative prize.
  • have previous grant winners (Dr Nutifafa Esther Senanu, Asantewa Aboagye MacCarthy, Isaiah Osei Duah Junior, and Dr Heinz Otchere) give inspiring presentations, in which they shared their journey since having won the grant.
  • provide tips on how to get the most out of Academy 2020 at home, as for many Ghanaian students this was there first virtual conference, and it was important to make sure they would experience the full benefit of attending the event.
  • acknowledge our sponsors: Volk (prizes to TOF’s 2020 Travel Grant winners), CooperVision US (sponsorship for membership) and the American Academy of Optometry (discount for membership) for their support.

We would like to acknowledge Dr Maria Markoulli who did a tremendous job in managing all the logistics that made The Optical Foundation’s Global Summit at AAO possible.
